Professional Background and Mental Health Experience

Allison brings over eight years of experience working in diverse areas of the mental health field. Her background includes supporting foster youth, justice-involved teens, individuals in substance use treatment, residents of trauma-focused residential programs, and couples and families seeking deeper connection and understanding.

Her path to becoming a therapist was inspired by her own personal work in individual and couples therapy, giving her firsthand insight into the courage, vulnerability, and commitment it takes to do this work. She understands how challenging it can be to show up honestly and believes that meaningful change happens when clients feel deeply supported and respected throughout the process.

Allison holds a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in the Mind, Body, and Spirit approach to Health Psychology from Bastyr University. She also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Social Work from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. In addition, she is currently in year three of a four-year Sign Language Interpreting program and hopes to one day integrate her passion for sign language into her clinical work.

My Approach to Therapy

Allison believes the most important aspect of therapy is the relationship itself. She views therapy as a collaborative partnership where the client is the expert in their own lived experience. Sessions are a thoughtful balance of goal-oriented and process-oriented work, supporting both short-term relief and long-term growth.

Her therapeutic approach draws from Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Attachment Theory. Together, these modalities help clients explore internal systems and relational dynamics, recognize patterns with greater clarity, and feel empowered to evolve in ways that align with their values.

Therapy is not always linear. Some sessions may feel deeply emotional, while others may be lighter and infused with humor. Allison believes that every version of you is welcome in the therapy room, and that all of it is part of the healing process.

Fun Facts About Me

Allison is a lover of all living things. In her free time, she enjoys caring for her ever-growing collection of houseplants, currently at 20 and counting, and spending time with her two sweet dogs, Harlow and Walter.

Before becoming a therapist, Allison worked as a dog trainer and continues to enjoy competitive dog sports, including Rally Obedience and agility training. She especially loves flying Harlow around the agility course.
